Unlike many other systems currently available to individuals who cannot easily access a computer using their hands, the Nouse does not require the need to wear a device or it does not need special hardware to operate. This makes this system extremely attractive as it is more affordable and portable than current systems. In addition, there are many components to the Nouse technology all designed to make the experience of using a “hands-free” computer a positive one.
The ability to use computer technology is almost mandatory in today’s society. Many aspects of everyday life, including schooling, shopping, banking, business, personal and employment require interaction with a computer. For those who find working with a physical keyboard and mouse cumbersome or have a disability due to disease or injury that prevents them from using a computer, have lost one of the most important communication mediums in the world today.
Computer access gives these individuals important ways to participate in work, education, leisure, social activities and home management. The current technology is expensive, bulky, fatiguing to use, and generally requires extensive input from Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) clinics.
The Nouse technology allows users to control a computer mouse and keyboard using only the movement of their nose (i.e., No need for a mouse to control a computer). Using the movement of their nose can replace common mouse/keyboard tasks, such as pointing, clicking, and typing.
